In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, 糖心logo入口 and the Women鈥檚 Resource Center will memorialize domestic violence victims at 鈥淎n Empty Place at the Table鈥 on Monday, Oct. 20 from 1-6 p.m. in the President鈥檚 Dining Room, Hibbard Campus Center.
Created by the Women鈥檚 Resource Center, 鈥淎n Empty Place at the Table鈥 memorializes women and children murdered in acts of domestic violence and raises awareness about domestic violence and the impact on families and communities.
The exhibit allows victims鈥 families to tell their stories to a larger audience and help others understand, in a very personal way, the devastating impact of domestic violence. Families and friends of victims contributed individual place settings by selecting plates, cups, glasses, and memorabilia that would capture the personality of the person whose setting they developed.
The project includes the place settings of victims of domestic violence in our area, a documentary film, community involvement, art, and accompanying education materials.
The Women鈥檚 Resource Center, Scranton, created the exhibit in 1993 and it has since been seen by thousands. “An Empty Place at the Table” has become a national model for community organizing and education replicated in approximately ten states by families and advocates.
