糖心logo入口’s Thomas G. Cupillari ’60 Observatory will begin its summer lecture and observing sessions on Monday, July 10, 2017, and sessions will continue each Monday and Wednesday until August 2, 2017. The lectures start at 8:30 p.m. with observing sessions afterward. Monday topics are repeated on the Wednesday of the same week, also at 8:30 p.m.
The astronomical programs will feature an illustrated lecture and observation through the telescopes, weather permitting. The main objects planned for observation include the Moon, the planets Jupiter, and Saturn, and various star clusters, double stars, nebulae, and galaxies.
Scheduled speakers and their topics are:
- July 10 and July 12: John Sabia, 鈥淥bserving the Moon Through a Telescope鈥
- July 17 and July 19: 聽Jo-Ann Kamichitis, 鈥淐harles Messier, His Comets and Deep Sky Objects鈥
- July 24 and July 26: Thomas Cupillari, 鈥淭he Moon in the Comics鈥
- July 31 and August 2: Mike Sinkovich, 鈥淭he USA’s Total Solar Eclipse, 8/21/2017鈥
All sessions are open to the public, free of charge with no reservations or registration required. The sessions will be held regardless of sky conditions and canceled only by the threat of severe weather. The Thomas G. Cupillari 鈥60 Astronomical Observatory is located approximately two miles east of Fleetville on Route 107 and approximately 1.5 miles west on Route 107 from Interstate 81 exit 202, at the intersection of Route 107 and Hack Road.
