Position Summary

The Student Engagement Coordinator serves as a key member of the Student Life team, supporting student engagement, campus programming, student organizations, and front-line student services. This position is responsible for fostering a vibrant campus environment by assisting with the development and implementation of co-curricular programs, supporting student clubs and organizations, coordinating major campus traditions, and serving as a resource for students, parents, faculty, and staff.

The Coordinator provides operational support for campus committees, assists with institutional events, serves as a liaison between Student Life and other campus departments, and helps students navigate campus processes through proactive communication and problem-solving. This role requires a highly energetic, student-centered professional who is passionate about creating meaningful student experiences and strengthening student involvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Engagement and Programming

  • Assist in the planning, promotion, implementation, and assessment of student activities and campus-wide events.
  • Serve as a primary staff resource for student engagement initiatives and campus traditions.
  • Support major institutional events including Welcome Week, Homecoming, Family Weekend, Convocation, Commencement, and other campus celebrations.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise student workers and volunteers for Student Life programs and events.
  • Assist in developing new traditions and engagement opportunities that enhance the student experience.

Student Organizations and Leadership Development

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for student clubs and organizations.
  • Assist student leaders with event planning, budgeting, marketing, risk management, and organizational development.
  • Provide guidance and continuity for large-scale collaborative events involving multiple student organizations.
  • Maintain records, rosters, and compliance documentation for recognized student organizations.
  • Support leadership development opportunities for student leaders and club officers.

Student Services and Front-Line Support

  • Serve as an initial point of contact for students, families, faculty, and staff seeking assistance from Student Life.
  • Provide information regarding campus resources, policies, procedures, and student support services.
  • Assist in de-escalating student concerns and guide students through appropriate institutional processes.
  • Refer students to appropriate offices and personnel when specialized support is needed.
  • Maintain a welcoming and student-centered office environment.

Administrative and Operational Support

  • Coordinate logistics for meetings, including scheduling, room reservations, agenda preparation, and minute-taking.
  • Maintain records and documentation for Student Life committees and initiatives.
  • Coordinate Student Life shuttle and vehicle reservation processes.
  • Assist with departmental communications, marketing, and outreach efforts.
  • Support data collection and reporting for departmental assessments and strategic initiatives.

Campus Collaboration

  • Represent Student Life at campus meetings and collaborative initiatives as assigned.
  • Foster communication and collaboration among Student Life, Residence Life, Athletics, Admissions, Academic Affairs, and other campus departments.
  • Participate in athletic department and other cross-functional meetings as assigned to improve communication and coordination across campus.
  • Assist with recruitment and retention initiatives through participation in campus visit programs, orientation programs, and student success efforts.

Other Duties

  • Assist with evening and weekend programs and events as needed.
  • Participate in emergency response and student support efforts when appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Student Life mission.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • One to three years of experience in student affairs, higher education, student activities, residence life, admissions, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard office technology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience advising student organizations.
  • Experience planning campus events and programs.
  • Experience supervising student employees or volunteers.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and best practices in student engagement.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly, non-exempt position with compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • On-campus housing provided as part of the compensation package.
  • College meal plan provided during periods when dining services are in operation.
  • On Call Rotation – (PRO STAFF)
